Give the gift of reading to a child in need - donate a book online today!
Join United Way Bay Area in our drive to create Summer Reading Kits featuring strong messages from authors and stories about people of color. United Way has a long history of providing families with basic need items during disasters and tough times. Parents will have the opportunity to start a library or diversify their existing book collections. That’s why, we need you to help encourage literacy and bring necessary resources to the most vulnerable families.
It's easy to support! Help us provide over 100 underserved BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other people of color) youth from our SparkPoint centers with Summer Reading Kits: a book bag of self-affirming books to read while sheltering in place!
We have compiled dynamic book bags that feature books by authors of color whose work provides self-affirming messages for BIPOC youth. Books highlight important issues of colorism, hair texture, immigration, gender, and more so that BIPOC youth feel seen, understood, and valued. Also included in the book bags are tips for adults on how to read books to children and young adults, a link to make the reading pledge, and a literacy workbook.
