Long Island Cares is one of the region's most comprehensive hunger assistance organizations, serving thousands of individuals and families in need.
Founded as the first food bank on Long Island in 1980 by the late singer, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and social activist Harry Chapin, Long Island Cares now provides food and support services for more than 580 food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, child care programs, disability organizations, veterans' services programs and more.
Donated food is down by 42%, yet the need for emergency food has increased dramatically. It's all hands on deck in the response to the impact COVID-19 is having on all of Long Island.
In addition to a "door-to-door" neighborhood food drive in Deer Park, I'm asking for your help in supporting all of Long Island with this virtual food drive.
