Thank you for supporting our Spring Food Drive from April 5, 2022 to May 5, 2022. The news from the food banks in the region reflect significant food insecurity among NJ residents, as increases in food costs are taking a toll on residents who are still suffering from the fiscal and physical effects of the pandemic. An additional factor in the demand for food bank supplies is the increase in refugees escaping tyranny in their respective countries.
About 800,000 people in New Jersey face hunger every day. 200,000 of them are children. When they don’t have enough food to eat, they can suffer direct and dramatic effects on their physical development and mental well-being.Food banks and their community partners are expecting demand for emergency food to stay high. The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the state’s biggest, serving 15 counties, is already on track to distribute food for a record 93 million meals in its current fiscal year which began on July 1, 2021. That’s up from 84 million meals in the last fiscal year, and 50 million in the year before the pandemic began. At a time when so many NJ families are food insecure, your generosity will make a huge difference during this difficult time. Thanks to our online donations partner YouGiveGoods, we are able to host this food drive initiative in a completely COVID-safe environment.
With gratitude, your 16th District NJ State Legislative representatives - Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, Assemblywoman Sadaf Jaffer.
