Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly is a national network of non-profit volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and lonelines among the elderly. LBFE is the only organization that offers companionship and life-enriching experiences to this frail and marginalized population, a vital service in a city where connectivity has become contingent on technology. As research has proven, aging alone without the support of family and friends has a negative impact on physical and mental wellbeing. It also can lead to premature death. Without LBFE, elders often go weeks without having a single meaningful interaction with another human being, and birthdays and holidays pass unacknowledged. Shockingly, the majority of our home-bound elders regard the television as their main souce of companionship.
