Saint Francis of Assisi Food Kitchen In the Catholic tradition and the spirit of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, the hungry are fed in collaboration with volunteers and donors from all faith communities. The Kitchen provides a free, hot, nutritious meal to all our guests everyday of the year. Staff and volunteers strive to be of assistance to others and serve with a spirit of compassion, respect, and dignity.
NEPA Youth Shelter The mission of the NEPA Youth Shelter is to provide quality emergency shelter and related services to unaccompanied youth ages 14 through high school graduation from all counties in NEPA. The Shelter will provide essentials such as food, clothing, and bathrooms, as well as services such as educational support, counseling, family reunification, and/or preparation for independent living. With a focus on social justice and advocacy, the Shelter will be welcoming to youth from all backgrounds and especially affirming to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) youth, as this population constitutes a high percentage of homeless youth in our area.
Friends of the Poor The mission of Friends of the Poor is to bring together in friendship those who have the desire to give with those who are in need of assistance, in order to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all.
The Great Ignatian Challenge derives its name from St. Ignatius, who taught, "Love consists of sharing what one has and what one is with those one loves. Love ought to show itself in deeds more than in words." We are collectively putting those words into action.
A key component of a Jesuit education is caring for the wider community which allows students to gain first-hand knowledge of local, national, and global issues. Through service to the community, the students prepare for the day when they will participate in their world as competent, concerned, and responsible members who are committed to social justice.
Scranton Prep, along with Xavier High School, Loyola School, Regis High School, Fordham Prep, Fairfield Prep, Saint Joseph’s Prep, Canisus High School, McQuaid Jesuit High School, Chevrus, BC High, Saint Peter's Prep, Loyola Blakefield, Gonzaga College HS, and Georgetown Prep are participating in a Thanksgiving food drive to raise awareness of hunger in our NY/NJ/PA/CT communities while filling local food banks and pantries with tens of thousands of pounds of much-needed provisions for needy families.
